Efficiency:

1. 12-18wh/mi in 'World Tour' mode (est 15wh/mi @15.5mph)

2. 25-35wh/mi in 'Freedom' Mode (est 30 wh/mi @20mph)

3. 35-75+wh/mi in 'Offroad' mode (varies wildly depending on speed and terrain)

Battery Range:

30-90 miles (standard dual battery) or 60-180ish miles (using 4x batteries). Depends on which drive mode you are using - World Tour gives the most range, basically tripling what you can get from the normal drive mode 2.

Solar Range:

40 miles per day (average day in central North Carolina)

10-15ish miles/day in bad weather

100+ miles/day in ideal solar conditions.

Combined range:

40-280+ miles per day (depending on solar conditions and battery configuration). A minimum of 30-60 miles per day on the batteries, plus a yearly average of +40 miles per day from solar, would be expected from driving in mode 2 in our area (it will maybe give 60-75 solar miles per day in the summer, and ~20 miles per day in the winter). If running in the 15mph 'World Tour' mode, you could expect a range of even more at 90-180 miles per day, plus another 100+ miles per day in available solar power.

Availability:

Est'd availability some time in 2026

About

The 'Safari' style body is an exercise in minimalism, as we challenged ourselves to 'clothe' the beast using only 1 front body mold in order to minimize R&D costs (plus a mostly flat solar roof, which maximizes solar in sunny environments while also providing maximum shade). In a conceptual sense, the look has borrowed some key elements from the newest Rolls Royce Phantom concept, plus the original Willys Jeep, a magic mushroom, and one particular Buick from 1967. Plus a few other vehicles who's influcence is too subtle to mention. The final design will differ from the above renderings, but only by so much. It mostly serves as a 'nose' where we can mount the golf cart windshield and full roll-down doors. But it also allows for a full floor, and full fender wells, and a place for the roll down doors, which are essential in wet weather. Just imagine, for a second, the aesthetic of 'Ye Olde American 'art deco' design language ... except ... it's straight outta the 2030's instead of the 1930's ... ;). Like a super friendly-looking mini hot rod that is equally good at both lookin' funny, as well as running errands.

The interior speaks more to an efficient, IKEA-shopping soul who is focused more on looking out at the road than at the inside of the vehicle (of course). You will find raw anodized aluminum, machined plywood, and generous use of 550 paracord in order to keep costs down and quality up. This can be built upon later as we iterate on the body system, but for now, we very much wanted the form of the Safari to reflect its function, both inside and out.

The Safari will be great for summertime, or in any climate where it's permanently hot. Like the desert (dry hot), or pretty much anywhere south of Atlanta (wet hot). We know 'bout both, y'all. Though it will also offer full protection from the elements from the included full wraparound roll-up doors. One of the initial SELFe builders lives in Winnipeg, so over the next couple years, we're hoping they can develop some good cold weather adaptations for the Safari as well. The windshield is actually just an existing golf cart windshield, which allows for better airflow & windshield wiper options compared to other designs.

Though objectively not very aerodynamic, we feel that the Safari model will quickly find its place among the more utility-minded users, such as golf courses, neighborhood electric vehicles (ahem. older people who drive to the mailbox. We love you), maintenance teams, universities, and small businesses who are already looking to further customize the storage area in the rear. You will find that, while the windshield is not aerodynamically optimized, that it still offers all the benefits of a fully enclosed velomobile when needed, including weather protection, minimal frontal area, swept back rear, and insane amount of utility compared to any other ebike. But, if needed, you will be able to 'pop the top off that bitch,' which brings you unbelievably close to Jeep territory. In fact, we challenge you all to even go off roading with these vehicles; though they may not be as capable as a traditional 4wd truck, the fact that they weigh less than 200 lbs, and can be picked up & moved by just a couple people, totally negates most of this perceived 'lack of hrsprs'. The SELFeMobil has just as good of a chance as any rock crawler of getting up even the hairiest mountain simply because it can be lifted without a winch! Oh, and the all wheel drive doesn't hurt at all. The all wheel drive option does make it very good at going up hills & going 'through' mud or other terrestrial obstacles.

Then going forward, as we develop additional body systems, we will begin to add different SELFe flavors. Maybe a more aerodynamic version. Maybe a version that accommodates wheelchairs. Maybe a farmy version that has 2 rear wheels. It's not up to us ... it's up to you!

More Details

Do you want a SELFeMobil modular e-trike, but aren't comfortable with the idea of actually building it yourself? Maybe you really like the idea that it can be built, and maintained indefinitely, by anyone in anyone's garage ... but practically, would still prefer to just buy a finished unit that's been properly assembled?

Or maybe you're just really busy, and want to drive the thing right away without fiddling with all the different wrenches and YouTube videos?!?!

Cool. Then welcome. This is the page. The problem is that we will not be offering complete builds until 2026! This will allow crucial time to both build up our inventory of necessary parts, as well as train the first wave of SELFe builders on how to build their own units. Then, only once we have enough inventory and helpful people available, would we ever promise to deliver finished units to customers!

Until that point, in 2026, we invite all interested parties to please follow the progress of this exciting, new, what we feel is the world's first 'democratized' vehicle! We are simply taking the 'open standard' approach to e-bike building, pioneered by Grin Tech (and many others), then going two steps farther with it to offer open-standard, user serviceable & moddable trike frames and bodies to go along with all these top quality electronics! Essential SELFeMobil updates will always be posted here, though for the most up-to-date info, you should follow our Instagram as well @solmobil, and also jump on the e-mail list!

Most of the electric parts required to complete a SELFe build are listed here. We will have the complete list, as well as all the required frame parts, in stock by ~Spring 2025.

SELFe frame-only built kits will be made available in Spring 2025 as well. Certain build components, such as dropouts, hardware, tires, etc. are already available by special order. Just send us an e-mail if you are interested. Thanks!
